Ilah Raleigh

Music Adjunct

I am so inspired by the mission and energy of the Dougherty Family College! I am delighted and honored to join the DFC faculty and contribute to the education of our community’s future leaders!

I care deeply about accessible arts education. Making and enjoying music is everyone’s birthright. Claiming that birthright often means disrupting false narratives about talent and giftedness. Through the arts we explore lessons in thinking creatively, embracing vulnerability, being in the moment, honoring our perspective, expressing our truth, and feeling the fear - and then doing it anyway. These lessons are of benefit to any college student developing into adulthood, but are of special value to those of us that society seeks to silence and exclude.

In my career as a performing artist and arts educator, I have worn many hats: vocalist, private instructor, storyteller, dancer, coach, director, writer, and composer. My performance credits include operatic productions with Washington National Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Minnesota Opera, and the Lakes Area Music Festival, and recitals and concerts with the Orlando Philharmonic, MacPhail Spotlight Series, Thursday Musical, and An die Musik “Live! Concert Series.”
