Introduction

I came to Dougherty because the mission and goals of the College aligns with what I consider to be my life’s work: to mentor and develop the academic potential of students from various backgrounds. As a first-generation college student and the first to earn a Doctorate in my family, I have witnessed the transformative power of education. I want to use my academic training and personal experiences to help DFC students achieve their goals and, perhaps, even surpass what they could have even imagined for themselves. I am honored to work at an institution that views education as a common good for all and I will do everything I can to ensure students succeed.

My professional interests include the history of education with a focus on minority and ethnic populations, Latinx student identity and place-making in the Midwest, Culturally Sustaining Pedagogies, Second Language Acquisition, and the influence of Latinx student activism at universities and colleges in the Midwest.
